FIREPLACE

Jason and I are installing a gas fireplace in our family room. Here are some photos of the progress. My dad helped out with the actual install of the fireplace, we're doing all the tiling.

We're finally done with the fireplace! We have to paint the wall and put the carpet back, but other than that, we're done - YEAH! We finished the grout last night. We had bought a lighter color and it looked weird, so we went with a dark red/brown. We like it, makes it look really earthy. We really love how the bottom turned out. The broken stuff at top has a little too much grout, but that's how it's supposed to look. I also think that very top doesn't have the great color variations like the bottom stuff does, but it still works. We're just so happy to be done with just about everything. Painting the room is the next big step, but we can wait on that or just paint the wall the fireplace is on.

7/5 - Well, we are finally done with the tiling itself. All we have left to do is grout. We bought a wet saw to cut the tiles and we loved it. It worked out great. Jason got a little dirty using it, but it brought him back to his childhood days of playing in the dirt - haha. So far we love it. It is turning out just great.

6/29 - We finished putting up the broken slate on the top part. We also got one side of the lower part done. Putting up the broken part wasn't all that fun. We had laid it out on the floor before we started, but then somehow it got all messed up when we put it up there - must have reversed a stone or something - so we had fun arguing about that. After we finish up the other side of the bottom part, we still have to do the cut pieces and then grout. Hopefully we'll be done before winter :-)

6/27 - We have finally started to tile. Those red dots you see in the tile shots are the spacers. It's really starting to look good now. We picked out the best colored tiles for the front. The project has take a little longer than we thought it would, but we ran into a few problems. I hate crown molding. Man, that stuff is tough to cut. Once we figured it out, it was a lot easier. We wasted about $50 on crown :-( I am so glad the mantel is all done. That had been a headache for a couple of weeks, but now it looks great. We're really happy with it and the tile.
