Chewbacca "Chewy" Singer

Chewy no longer lives with us. His acting out was too much to deal with. He bit too many people and a dog that has metal issues should not be placed with people. His problems will never get better and unfortunately, should either be put to sleep or live with one woman who has no friends or family visit. I'm just glad we got rid of him before the baby came. There is NO WAY I would have kept him after finding out I was pregnant ... he's the type of dog that would eat or severely injure the baby. I couldn't take the chance that he might hurt the baby. For such a cute dog, it was a terrible experience. It's gonna be some time before we get another dog, which sucks for me, but I'm sure makes Jason happy after being bitten so many times by Chewy.

6/21/05 - Updated photos from us playing in the pool with Chewy. He drops his ball in the water and tries to get it. He doesn't care for the water and won't go in it on his own. He tries to reach for his ball and some times reaches a little too far and falls in. He hasn't figured out where the stairs are yet, we have to steer him toward them each times he falls in. Nacho hates the water, won't go near it.

6/16/05 - The Chew-ball is a goofball. We have a fly in the house and it's driving him nuts. He tries to catch it in his mouth all the time and constantly watches it. It's funny, but he gets all goofy and you can't settle him down until the fly leaves the room. Last night he kept going by the fireplace and smelling and then licking it. It was very strange. Not sure what he was smelling. He has had some potty accidents in the house. He never goes in the same place twice - guess he assumes "well, I got in trouble when I peed there, so I'll pee here." He is getting so good at finding his ball when he throw it from the deck. He waits and watches it hit the ground and then goes down to get it. Before he would just start running when he saw we threw it, but then he couldn't find where it was thrown to. But he's learned. He's also learned how to take the baby-gate down, or move it forward, move the large rock in front of it and get behind the gate and open the sliding laundry room door. He's a smart little devil - gotta give him credit for that.

6/14/05 - Update - Well, we still have the Chew-ball. Underdog Rescue didn't want to acquire him back for a fee. They said we had to give them 14 days, but it didn't say we had to give him back for free - a little detail I am sure they will update after this - haha. Chewy loves playing with his ball. He could care less if you throw it really far or just a few feet - he'll chase it for hours. He's so cute, I just wish he wouldn't bite or growl. I am going to start a "How Many Days Since Chewy Bit Someone" tally. We're at 4.5 days - haha. My parents will be doggy sitting later this week, so hopefully he'll be good, but knowing Chewy, he won't. I think I am going to buy everyone who comes in contact with Chewy one of those suits that people wear when they go diving with sharks - haha! I do have some video of Chewy being Chewy (well, no biting videos ... yet). One of these days I will get it on the site.

6/10/05 - 4 days and counting until Chewy leave the Singer household. We're not sure what we're going to do with him. We had another incident last night. He bit another dog and bit me in the process. I was trying to hold him back and he bit my hand - it feels like he broke a bone in my hand, but I think it's just really bruised. I was thinking about it - he's not a good dog 90% of the time. He's 90% good when you're throwing his ball, but other than that, he's a terrible dog. He bites, he growls, he bites and chases after other dogs and he has terrible separation anxiety (which goes along with destruction to the house). It's funny how everyone says how cute he is. Whenever we take him somewhere just about everyone tells us how cute he is and they want to know what type of dog he is. Jason and I now tell everyone his name is Cujo and he's a great dog until he rips your head off (or hand). I get more and more angry every day about the whole situation. I feel lied to and cheated. Chewy isn't going to get any better and shouldn't have been placed with anyone and after talking to the Minnesota Humane Society, they said that more than likely a dog like Chewy would have to be put to sleep because of the biting. The neighborhood kids love him - not sure what I am going to tell them when he's no longer living there. I guess I will just tell them that "he went to live at grandma's."

6/2/05 - Well, we are officially not keeping Chewy. Lets see, he has now bitten Jason and severely scratched him, bit Linda, bit my dad pretty good and constantly growls and attacks people. It it very difficult for me to believe that Chewy didn't have this bad behavior before we got him. I mean, he started showing this behavior less than 24 hours after we go him. Somehow I feel suckered. He's such a good dog 90% of the time, but it's that 10% that's pretty scary. We had to give Underdog Rescue 14 days to decide if they want to buy him back. So, after June 13th, Chewy will no longer be living with us. It's all upsetting after all the time, emotional commitment and money we have spent on him for it to be such a horrible experience. We will probably not get another dog for a long time and if we do, I am getting a puppy from a dog store. Even though it would be a puppy mill dog at least I will be able to train it and any bad habits it has is because I caused them.

5/27/05 - Chewy finally got a haircut! He looks like a little lamb now.

5/15/05 - He as become aggressive with Jason. He growls and had bitten Jason and that is totally unacceptable behavior in our household. He has bitten Jason and Linda. We have tried to give him a "time out" when he does it, but it has not worked. If you look through the photos you will see how he chewed through our METAL garage door. The dog obviously was not evaluated enough by the shelter before they sold him to us and they are the only shelter I know that doesn't have a trial period where you can take him back and get your money back. We're working with him on this little problem and hopefully he will get over it, but if he doesn't we won't be keeping him.

5/12/05 - He is such a cutie. We got him last night from a pet shelter in Minneapolis. I saw his picture online and jumped at the chance to get him because he was too cute. He's about 3 years old and is a Pomeranian Mix. They said pomeranian and poodle, but who knows. He is house broken so far as we can tell and knows how to play fetch with a ball. He weighs about 11 pounds and I am guessing 5 of it is hair. I fell in love with that long hair and it's super soft. I cut some of the hair by his face and gave him a good brush last night and he did just fine. He is a mamma's boy so far as he follows me everywhere (I think Jason is a little jealous - haha). He slept in his little dog bed by our bed last night. He hasn't barked since we bought him home. His name was Wookie at the shelter, but we changed it to Chewy since we felt stupid calling him Wookie. He is in badly need of a bath and hair cut, but since he just had his little friends chopped off, we have to wait a few more days. It's been raining here, so he smells like wet dog. I just hope that he and his cousin Nacho like each other :-)
